One Less Car, One More Park Event Encourages Residents to Use Alternative Modes of Transportation

Event Will Transform Unused Parking Spaces into Gathering Places for Residents to Enjoy

WHAT:
On Friday, the City of Orlando will host the second annual One Less Car, One More Park event where twelve local firms will temporarily transform on-street metered parking spaces into re-imagined parks and green areas to show the positive impact of leaving vehicles at home and walking, biking, carpooling or using public transit to commute.

Throughout the day, attendees will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite re-imagined parking space and learn more about local transit options. District 4 City Commissioner Patty Sheehan will present the winning design firm with a trophy made from a recycled parking meter.

As part of the event, the City of Orlando is encouraging residents and employees to commute to work using an alternative mode of transportation this Friday. Not only do alternate travel modes reduce the need to use land for parking, but it also saves residents money and reduces congestion and pollution.

The One Less Car, One More Park event is part of Green Works Orlando, the City’s sustainability initiative to engage everyone who lives, works and visits Central Florida in the effort to “go green.”
