Residents and businesses have accepted our challenge to keep our city green by making improvements to their homes, neighborhoods and business establishments.
Residential recycling participation is up by 10 percent with an increase of nearly 50 percent total tonnage of recycled material collected since 2012. To encourage more resident participation in our recycling program, and to meet the current demand for increased recycling service by current participants, we are launching a six month solid waste pilot in seven Orlando neighborhoods.
In these neighborhoods, the City of Orlando’s Solid Waste Division will increase recycling collection from once every other week to once per week and reduce garbage collection from twice per week to once per week. Yard waste collection will remain the same with collection once per week.
Through this pilot, we will gather feedback from our residents with the eventual goal of expanding this pilot citywide.
It is critical that as our city grows, our residents, businesses and government operations do all that we can to conserve, preserve and reuse our valuable resources. By providing increased recycling pickup, we hope that even more residents will participate in the City’s recycling program and help make Orlando one of the most sustainable cities in America.
