Saturday is National Public Lands Day and we’re celebrating by offering free admission to our Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake. John Perrone, the City of Orlando’s Parks Division Manager, writes about the value of our more than 110 City parks and provides a list of under-the-radar parks for you to experience.

With room for activities and recreation, parks help us stay healthy. And they keep our environment healthy. Simply put, parks add to our quality of life.
Here in Orlando, we are lucky to have more than 110 City parks. Some like Lake Eola Park, Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake and Loch Haven Cultural Park are well known. Others, like the seven parks below, are waiting to be discovered by you.
Cherry Tree Park
Cherry Tree Park is a great park for families to enjoy. Located near Orlando Executive Airport, the park is nearly one acre and has a playground for tots and older grade-school children, a pavilion and open space for fun games and activities. Picnic tables are also available in the shade with grills for a great cookout.

Demetree Park
This 24.6-acre park has three lakes connected by winding sidewalks and boardwalks, providing great bird-watching opportunities and spots for relaxation among tall trees. Demetree Park also has a playground, fishing pier, picnic areas and tennis and basketball courts.

Z.L. Riley Park
With amenities like a picnic area, playground and pavilion, Z.L. Riley Park is a great location for birthday parties and events. Over half an acre in size, the park is a place where children can spend hours running, climbing and having fun at the bright and colorfully-decorated playground.

Harbor Park
With boardwalks and gazebos, Harbor Park offers great views and access to Lake Baldwin. Located in Baldwin Park, Harbor Park provides a scenic waterfront with many benches for discovering nature and watching sunsets. Grassy areas are open for kids to run and play and for families to set down blankets for a picnic.

Southport Community Park
Test your athletic abilities by visiting Southport Community Park for a game of baseball or softball in the 52-acre park. Then take a break with a picnic or a stroll along the walking paths.

Greenwood Urban Wetlands
Just minutes from Downtown Orlando, Greenwood Urban Wetlands is one of our community’s most unique parks. Developed in the early 1990s as a stormwater treatment facility, Greenwood Urban Wetlands is now a beautiful 19-acre park with scenic walkways, benches and picnic tables and is the home of many birds and wildlife.

Eagles Nest
Eagles Nest Park
Filled with baseball fields and open space for soccer, football and kickball, Eagles Nest Park offers plenty of room for activities. The park includes a 2.2-mile walking trail.
