City of Orlando – Hurricane Irma Update #6
September 11, 2017 – ORLANDO, FL – At a press conference today at 12:00 p.m., the City of Orlando issued the following information to keep the community informed and up to date on Hurricane Irma recovery efforts:
The City’s Emergency Operations Center remains at a Level 1 Full Activation.
The Citizen Info Line is open. Residents should call 407-246-HELP (4357) to report damage, downed trees, traffic lights that are out and get information from the City on response efforts.
At this time, the City has received reports of 75 trees down and has already removed 15% of these.
Starting tomorrow, Tuesday, September 12, 2017, the City will begin yard waste pick up. Crews will be continuously picking up yard waste throughout the City.
Residents should place all debris at their curb and not in the streets. Items placed in the street can block access for solid waste trucks and can clog storm drains.
It is very helpful if customers can bag or bundle as much of the debris as possible. Bags and bundles can be collected by both the manual yard waste crews and claw trucks. Duct tape and twine work well for bundling yard waste.
The City has 157 intersections that have been reported as damaged or without power. City crews are currently out in the field assessing these issues.
TRASH & RECYCLINGUPDATE:
Tomorrow, Tuesday, September 12, 2017, residential and commercial waste and recycle pick up will resume operation as normal.
Residents whose garbage or recycling pickup was missed today, Monday, September 11, 2017, due to the storm will have pick up on Wednesday, September 13, 2017.
The City has extended the removal time for any cars that were parked in City garages. Residents now have until Wednesday, September 13, at 8 a.m. to remove their cars.
More than 4,000 people utilized this service during the storm.
