Experience Our Local Food Scene During Main Streets Restaurant Week
Posted date: July 27, 2016
Pauline Eaton, the Orlando Main Streets coordinator, offers reasons why you should experience the second annual Main Street Restaurant Week.
Orlando continues to be recognized as the home of a burgeoning local food movement. In fact, some of Orlando’s most noted and popular restaurants are locally-owned small businesses that made their start in one of our eight unique Main Streets districts.

During the second annual Main Streets Restaurant Week, restaurants from each district – Audubon Park Garden District, Church Street District, College Park Partnership, Downtown South, Gateway Orlando, Ivanhoe Village, Mills 50 and Thornton Park – will offer prix fixe lunch and dinner menus featuring local favorites, specialty items and food and beverage pairings at an exceptional price.
After the overwhelming success of last year’s inaugural Restaurant Week, this year the event will last for two weeks starting July 30 and running through August 13, allowing residents and visitors to experience more of the local culinary scene and the eclectic personalities and cultures found in each district.
What most people don’t know is the idea for Restaurant Week came to life two years ago in a hotel from a few notes scribbled on bar napkins. In 2014, two of our Main Streets directors and a handful of College Park Partnership Board of Directors attended the Main Street National Conference where they met a number of districts from around the country who had used similar events to promote their local restaurants. The group brought their excitement back to Orlando, and the Orlando Main Street team anxiously got to work creating an event that could launch in the summer of 2015.
Main Street Directors and City staff could not be more pleased with the success and attention this year’s event has already received. As August is typically a slower time of year for business in the Main Streets, Restaurant Week motivates residents to eat out and try something new without breaking the bank. Consequently, residents are exposed to a local, vibrant side of the city they may have never known existed, and it also allows our restaurateurs to remind their neighbors of amazing dining options right around the corner.
It’s now time for you to start planning where you’ll be dining during Restaurant Week!
