The City of Orlando issued the following information to keep you informed and up to date on Hurricane Irma recovery efforts:


At this time, the City has received reports of 286 trees down and has already removed 45% of those blocking roadways.

City contractors have started removing debris from roadways and public right-of-ways to ensure the safety of vehicle and pedestrian traffic. This process is expected to take several days to complete.

Over the next 30 to 60 days, the City will make multiple cycles throughout the City to pick up yard debris. Debris pickup for residential and commercial yard debris is expected to begin next week.

Debris should be placed at the curb and not in the streets or blocking sidewalks. Items placed in the street can block access for solid waste trucks and clog storm drains.

It is very helpful if customers can separate vegetative debris (tree limbs and yard waste) from building materials like fencing and construction materials.


The City has received 275 reports of structural or electrical damage to homes or businesses. It’s important that this type of damage be reported to the Citizen Information Line (407.246.HELP) so that a City inspector can assess the damage and the City has proper documentation of the damage.


The City has 181 intersections that have been reported as damaged or without power. City crews are currently out in the field assessing these issues. Residents are reminded that an intersection with a broken signal should be treated as a four-way stop.


Tomorrow, Wednesday, September 13, 2017, residential and commercial waste and recycle pick up will resume operation as normal.

Residents whose garbage or recycling pickup was missed on Monday, September 11 will have pick up on Wednesday, September 13, 2017. All pickups moving forward, for both garage and recycling, will occur on regularly scheduled days.


Cars that were parked in City garages throughout the duration of the storm should be removed by Wednesday, September 13 at 8 a.m. More than 4,000 people used this service during the storm.


The City of Orlando’s water reclamation system is working overtime and experiencing high water flow due. Residents are asked to use water only when necessary by limiting use of water from showers, sinks and dishwashers until the water flows have reduced to a normal level which is expected in the next few days.


Since Orange County Public Schools will be closed through Thursday, September 14, the City will open our community centers that have had power restored so parents who have to work have a safe place to take their kids. The centers open for childcare include:

· Callahan Center

· Citrus Square

· College Park

· Ivey Lane

· Jackson Center

· Rosemont

· Dr. Smith Center

· Wadeview

The centers will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and parents must bring a lunch and snacks for their kids.

Recreation and community centers not listed here will be closed until power is restored.


Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake and Lake Eola Park open for normal operating hours beginning Wednesday, September 12. Other parks may remain closed as they are still being assessed.

Leu Gardens is expected to be closed for at least week due to extensive damage to the grounds. Please contact Leu Gardens at 407.246.2620 regarding scheduled events.


City of Orlando offices and services will resume normal hours of operation tomorrow, Wednesday, September 13 with the exception of Leu Gardens, parks still being assessed and recreation and community centers without restoration of power.
