On Friday, July 4, at 4:10 p.m., Arthur Schreiber, reporter and chairman of the New Mexico Commission for the Blind, will share with the convention his unique experience as one of two reporters who traveled with the Beatles on their first cross-country tour through the United States.

Blind Youth to Participate in Unique Triathlon

Many different sporting events for blind people of all ages will be held at the national convention. Blind people are often told they cannot participate in athletic pursuits, and the National Federation of the Blind works to dispel that misconception and encourage blind people to live the lives they want with exciting activities throughout the convention.

On Wednesday, July 2, from 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m., the National Organization of Parents of Blind Children (NOPBC) will hold its first-ever Breaking Barriers Triathlon. The blind youth who participate will swim through shark-infested waters, race in an alligator-infested swamp, and shoot down barriers to independence. The triathlon will be held in the pool area of the Rosen Centre.

NOTE: The entire convention agenda is available at http://www.nfb.org.

About the National Federation of the Blind

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Everyday, we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.
