Vote for Your Favorite City of Orlando Park This Earth Month
One of three City of Orlando parks has the chance to receive $20,000 through Parks Build Community Campaign
Orlando, FL, – April 2, 2015 – This April, known as Earth Month, the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), Disney | ABC Television Group and ESPN are collaborating to revitalize parks across the U.S. including a park right here in Orlando through Parks Build Community. As part of the initiative, one of three City of Orlando will receive a $20,000 grant and Orlando residents get to choose which one.
“Through our Green Works initiative, Orlando has become the most sustainable City in the southeast and part of that achievement comes from our focus on transforming our urban environment to connect our neighborhoods by providing more parks and green public spaces that offer gathering spaces for recreation and social activity for our residents,” said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. “I am proud Orlando is a part of the Parks Build Community competition and how this partnership will help us continue to further our sustainability efforts.”
By visiting NRPA.org/BeInspired, Orlando residents can vote daily for their favorite park project starting April 1 until April 30. The projects are:
Trail improvements at Bill Frederick Park: Upgrade the nature trail at Bill Frederick Park, giving the community a safe place to explore, learn about and connect with nature.
Parramore Kidz Zone Football: Give Orlando’s kids in need the opportunity to learn the game of football by providing the safety gear and other equipment they need to enjoy their sport.
Shade Structure for Orlando Skate Park: Orlando Skate Park brings together skateboard, BMX and Rollerblade enthusiasts. Give these athletes and their fans a break from the Florida sun with a new shade structure.
“Parks have immense power. They help families live healthier lives, connect kids to nature, increase kids’ access to sports and so much more,” said Barbara Tulipane, President and CEO of NRPA. “Parks Build Community is a great opportunity to share the power of parks during Earth Month while bringing essential funds to critical local park projects.”
The National Recreation and Park Association is a national not‐for‐profit organization
dedicated to advancing park, recreation and conservation efforts that enhance quality of life for all people. Through its network of more than 47,000 recreation and park professionals and citizens, NRPA encourages the promotion of healthy lifestyles, conservation initiatives and equitable access to parks and public space.
