ORLANDO, FL (PRWEB) SEPTEMBER 01, 2016
Orlando Heart Specialists (OHS) has been selected to apply the Million Hearts® Cardiovascular Disease Risk Reduction Model to decrease heart attacks and strokes by predicting patients’ individual risk and applying prevention interventions. Million Hearts® is a national initiative to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes by 2017.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. One in three deaths are caused by heart attacks and strokes.
According to Christi Hudiburg, CEO of OHS, the selection of OHS by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) advances OHS “towards the top 10% of practices nationwide in reaching the highest level of cardiac risk reduction.”
By working with Medicare fee-for-service beneficiaries, OHS doctors determine the patient’s ten-year individual risk for a heart attack or stroke, then develop a personalized risk modification plan. This may include: smoking cessation interventions, blood pressure management, or cholesterol-lowering drugs.
“Our health care system historically emphasized acute care over preventive care,” said Dr. Patrick Conway, CMS Acting Principal Deputy Administrator and Chief Medical Officer. “This initiative will enhance patient-centered care and give practitioners the resources to invest the time and staff to address and manage patients who are at high risk for heart attacks and strokes.”
OHS also offers 60-minute group sessions where its doctors discuss lifestyle factors, medications, complications and more regarding heart disease and diabetes.
New patients can schedule an appointment or reserve a seat at a group session by calling 407-767-8554.
