Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and District 2 City Commissioner Tony Ortiz will host the 10th Annual City of Orlando’s Hispanic Heritage Month kickoff event on Thursday, September 15, 2016 to celebrate the influence of Hispanic culture in Orlando.

HispanicHeritageMonthKickoffThis free event celebrates the commencement of Hispanic Heritage month, which runs from September 15 to October 15, 2016. The month recognizes the culture and traditions of U.S. residents who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico and the Spanish-speaking nations of the Central America, South America and the Caribbean. The starting date coincides with the Independence Commemoration of several Latin American countries.

This year’s event will feature an art exhibit from a diverse group of Central Florida artists, Latin food, music and folkloric dances and will pay tribute to the victims of the Pulse tragedy.

The Hispanic Heritage Art Exhibition celebrates the creativity, inspiration, cultural heritage, and art made by 15 Hispanic artists from Colombia, Cuba, Brazil, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela. The art exhibit will run from September 15 to October 21, 2016 at the Terrace Gallery located on the first floor of Orlando City Hall, 400 South Orange Avenue.
