City of Orlando Monitoring Hurricane Matthew and Encourages Citizens to Prepare
October 4, 2016 – ORLANDO, FL – The City of Orlando’s Emergency Operations Center remains at the monitoring level and City departments are continuing to take precautionary measures for any potential impacts from hurricane Matthew. Although its path is still uncertain, the City wants to encourage residents, visitors and businesses to prepare for the storm, including assembling their disaster kit and reviewing disaster plans.
“I want to encourage all our residents, visitors and businesses to closely monitor hurricane Matthew and use today and tomorrow to prepare yourselves, your family and your employees for potential landfall of the hurricane,” said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. “It is our goal at the City of Orlando to protect our residents and businesses, to prevent loss of life and to minimize damage caused by hurricanes.”
Residents should prepare an emergency kit, including water (one gallon of water per person per day), food (a three-day supply), medication, battery powered radio, batteries and any special items needed like medications. Keep the items that you would most likely need during an evacuation in an easy-to carry container.
