Join the City of Orlando for the Holidays
WHAT:
There is no more festive time of the year to experience the City of Orlando than the holiday season. Throughout November and December, there are a number of holiday events and activities, many of which are free and family-friendly, for Orlando residents and visitors of all ages to enjoy. These events further the City’s continued commitment to providing a wide variety of amenities and entertainment for everyone.
WHEN & WHERE:
Wednesday, November 15, 2017 – Wednesday, November 29, 2017
**For video/photo planning purposes – On Wednesday, November 15, fencing will go up and booms will be set around 8:30 a.m. near the amphitheater where the tree will be installed. Unloading of the Christmas tree pieces and holiday ornaments from the semi truck will start around 9:00 a.m. The bulk of the actual tree installation will begin later that afternoon and continue throughout Thursday, November 16.**
Lake Eola Park Becomes Eola Wonderland

Starting Wednesday, November 15 the City’s 72-foot Christmas tree featuring more than 88,000 LED lights will begin to be installed at Lake Eola Park and decorated with 7,000 ornaments. Ornaments and wreaths will also be installed throughout the park and at the Eola House. Six twelve-feet tall nutcrackers will be installed near the amphitheater. The entire wonderland transformation process will take about two weeks and should be complete by Wednesday, November 29.

Annually organized by the Ivanhoe Village Main Street District, Jingle Eve is a family-friendly holiday celebration featuring a Santa’s Village, a wine stroll, beer garden, Christmas tree lighting, food trucks, local artists, vendors, live musical performances and a fireworks show over Lake Ivanhoe.

The tradition of raising the 600-pound golden star began when two competing department stores, Ivey’s on the east of Orange Avenue and Dickson & Ives on the west, joined together in 1955 to hang the Christmas star between the two stores. The raising of the star marks the start of the holiday season in the City of Orlando.

Thornton Park Main Street District invites residents to hang ornaments and string lights on the Main Street District’s tree during a Christmas tree decorating event. Santa Claus will also stop by for photos with the children.

The City of Orlando’s annual Tree Lighting Celebration will feature the official lighting of the City’s 72–foot Christmas tree featuring 88,000 animated LED lights. The event also includes entertainment, holiday music and TheDailyCity.com Food Truck Bazaar.

Eola Wonderland Christmas Tree Show

Every night starting on Friday, December 1 through Saturday, January 6 at 5:45 p.m.; 6:45 p.m.; 7:45 p.m.; 8:45 p.m. and 9:45 p.m., the Eola Wonderland 72–foot Christmas tree will come alive with a synchronized light and music show while the Lake Eola fountain displays red, green and gold lights to celebrate the holiday season.

Deck the Downtown
Downtown Orlando
The Downtown Orlando Partnership, Downtown Arts District Orlando, Church Street District, Thornton Park District and Downtown Development Board are hosting “Deck the Downtown” December 1-31. Throughout this time Downtown Orlando businesses will be “decked-out” with festive lights and window decorations. A map will guide residents and guests as they walk the streets of Downtown, enjoying the creativity and holiday spirit of each of the participating business locations. Deck the DTO location maps can be found online or at the Downtown Information Center.

Residents can get in the “spirit” of the season at the Approximately 12 Pubs of Christmas Pub Crawl, annually organized by the Mills 50 Main Street District. Buy a wristband for $10 at Wally’s or GB’s Bottle Shop and Tasting Bar in Mills 50 District, and enjoy drink and food specials at 16 bars, restaurants and shops.
